You can advance your informatics research training at CHI in a number of ways:
Our postgraduate program in Health Informatics allows candidates with a background in computer science, engineering or health to undertake advanced research, leading to a postgraduate degree under the supervision of experienced senior research staff, in one of CHI’s
research areas. To fill in skill gaps, candidates have the option to undertake specialised Masters level and undergraduate courses in health informatics, computer science, biomedical engineering, public health, as well as other courses offered by UNSW.
The minimum requirement for entry is a Bachelors degree or equivalent in computer science, engineering, bioinformatics, a medical or health science related degree, or other relevant discipline. Students generally enroll through the
School of Public Health and Community Medicine.
2. Internships & short research projects from another institution
We offer undergraduate honours and masters students from other institutions an opportunity to undertake short-term research in an area of their interest. Depending on requirements of their home institution, students typically work with us over a period of 3 to 6 months on a well-defined project within one of our research streams. These projects allow an outstanding opportunity for budding researchers to gain practical experience in undertaking health informatics research under the guidance of a domain expert, and provides exposure to life in a multidisciplinary research centre.
How to apply
To apply for a Masters by research or PhD please submit an application including the following:
1. a
thesis proposal outlining your topic and research methods (2-3 pgs)
2. your curriculum vitae
3. copies of academic records and transcripts
4. examples of research writing (e.g. published journal articles, student research project reports)

PhD scholarships
CHI is offering a number of PhD scholarships for candidates with Australian residency or citizenship, or New Zealand citizenship. UNSW also assists postgraduate research students by providing a wide range of prestigious
scholarships. These scholarships range from annual stipends, living allowances and tuition fee costs, to travel scholarships and supplements. Scholarships are available for both local and international postgraduate research students.
