Biography

I am working with Dr. Farah Magrabi investigating why and how healthcare practitioners (e.g. doctors) make errors when using clinical decision support technology such as electronic prescribing systems. By understanding the mechanisms for new computer generated errors we are trying to design safer technology for healthcare practice. For my doctoral thesis, I carried out a series of experimental studies examining factors, such as interruptions, that give rise to a specific kind of human error known as post-completion error (PCE). A classic example of a PCE is forgetting to retrieve the original document after finished making your photocopies. (And there are a lot more examples!)

Research Interests

Broadly speaking, I am interested in the study of human cognition through applied problems in Human-Computer Interaction. Specific topics that I am interested in are human error, the effect of interruptions on task performance, cognitive modelling (GOMS and ACT-R) and medical decision making.
